One of the loveliest things about my job is hearing feedback about our gardens from the local community, as it confirms my belief that private gardens can be significant… not only to the owners themselves but to humans and non-humans more broadly… below are quotes from locals that approached us during our recent visits to our Haberfield garden, which is now one and a half years old:
“Are you the gardener? I love it. It looks like you’ve cut out a piece of the bush and stuck it in front of the house”
— Son of an elderly neighbour
“What is the name of this beautiful plant?”
— Local walking past, stopping to stroke a Calothamnus quadrifidus
“Did you make the garden? It is so beautiful”
— Another elderly next-door neighbour
The clients have also told us in the past that the boy down the road also enjoys playing in the front garden 💚
