Peperomia tetraphylla [Piperaceae]
A member of the pepper family, this species is one of the few fleshy succulents native to the Sydney region. I’ve grown the very similar NZ native P.urvilleana with some success in Auckland, where it occupies an identical condition and habitat: wet to dry boulders beneath a rainforest canopy. In our experience it is slow growing, dry-tolerant, easy to propagate from cuttings. Rocky conditions are ideal. I suspect it would make a good indoor plant in a well-lit condition, in fact we are currently trialling its relative Peperomia blanda in an indoor garden project and it has performed well so far. This attractive little plant can be hard to find in nurseries. We propagated some from cuttings from plantings at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan.
